Our client is an ambitious and innovative specialist consumer lending business. They are a start-up, led by a management team with a successful track record in lending businesses and backed by a major private equity company who have made a substantial commitment to the business.

They will build their platform and quickly launch products in a number of target markets. This is an opportunity for a talented and ambitious individual to join them at the start of their journey.

They are looking for an experienced risk and compliance director. The successful candidate needs to have experience of risk, compliance and legal, ideally in a high volume financial services environment. You will operate as a member of the senior management team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To lead the risk, compliance and legal function.
  • Initially recommend and then implement all risk and compliance policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Carry out proactive regular reviews as part of an agreed monitoring programme.
  • Take ownership of complaints process and reporting.
  • Ensure business always compliant and legal by meeting FCA expectations and obligations.
  • Identify areas of weakness and recommend improvements.
  • Promptly escalate issues to CEOs.
  • Act as money laundering reporting officer.
  • Keep up to date with all relevant industry knowledge, FCA requirements, legal, risk and compliance policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Provide relevant advice, guidance and expertise.

Key targets include:

  • Ensure business always compliant and legal by meeting FCA expectations and obligations.
  • Carry out regular reviews in line with agreed programme.

Key requirements are:

  • A good understanding of the risk, compliance and legal requirements in a high volume financial services environment.
  • Ability to communicate at all levels across the business both in writing and verbally.
  • Excellent report writing.
  • Proactive self-starter with good questioning and problem solving skills.
